The incumbent will function as a member of the Communications and Marketing Team, and reports to the AVP of Marketing.

Position Summary:

The Director, Content Marketing, is responsible for owning, developing and executing an overarching content narrative and strategy for the National Council that will connect and amplify all the stories of impact, progress, trends and needs of the Behavioral Health field. Through the lens of the National Council, our members, partners and other key influencers the Director of Content Marketing increases awareness, engagement and action with the National Council’s key audiences and elevates the work of the sector. The Director teams with and supervises the Manager of Social Media to ensure that the overarching content narrative is aligned and leveraged across our digital as well as traditional channels. We are looking for someone with a sustained record of content marketing excellence and diverse experience; a strategic and innovative thinker. This candidate will have a bias toward action and excellent leadership and people skills.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive content marketing plan that enhances the organization’s overall brand and sector awareness, revenue, membership and partnerships

  • Own and create the Annual Report for the National Council as well as other key organizational collateral
  • Writes blogs, web copy, white papers, articles and other content as needed
  • Work seamlessly with the PR, Communications and other Marketing staff to integrate and coordinate content marketing efforts across various departments to ensure maximum effectiveness and outcomes

  • Partner with PR and Communications around the editorial strategy and editorial calendar

  • Develop effective partnerships throughout the organization to identify opportunities, connect dots, develop effective content together and ensure content is promoted across all effective channels and opportunities

  • Utilize diverse marketing and communication channels (including print, digital and social) and leverage new technologies for effective communication and engagement

  • Proposes and tests new channels, deliverables, formats and ideas to increase reach, awareness, impact and action

  • Contributes to the evolution of the organization’s Marketing function, sharing insights and best practices to enhance overall performance

  • Supervise the Manager of Social Media

  • Direct and manage all activities to meet budgets

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Communication, Marketing, Journalism or related field; Masters preferred
  • 10+ years of proven, results-oriented experience and leadership in managing a marketing program and team
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, direct reports and senior-level executives
  • At least 5 years of supervisory and project management experience
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented with a high attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines in a demanding, fast-paced environment
