Job Location: Washington, DC
 

Position Summary:
As directed by the Vice President, Communications, the Media Relations Manager will work to increase awareness of the National Council and its programs and goals through national media and trade publications, managing the flow of information to the media and serving as a media spokesperson when needed. The National Council is seeking a mid-level media relations professional responsible for the development and implementation of a proactive and creative media strategy, developing and maintaining key relationships in relevant media, and managing select agency relationships. The incumbent will work with internal and external partners to create compelling communications. The Manager will help to develop and implement National Council’s short and long-term public engagement strategy and will engage with grassroots activists, local opinion leaders, and public policy staff to advance the National Council's outreach, education, and policy goals through communications. The Media Relations Manager will also be responsible for tracking and leveraging media mentions; writing compelling op-eds; and providing interview training. The Media Relations Manager will be responsible for performing other duties, as needed.


 

Required Qualifications:
  • At least 5-7 years’ experience in communications in a complex healthcare organization, corporation, or public relations agency with a focus on healthcare
  • Experience engaging with national news media as an official spokesperson for a company, government agency, or organization
  • Proven track record of establishing and implementing media relations strategies with measurable results
  • Record of building meaningful relationships with members of the media
  • Superior writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills, ability to cope with ambiguity, and experience managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
