POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is part of a seven-person accounting team and participates in all aspects of the accounting function with primary duties of being a lead for maintaining the books and records and providing financial support for the organization. The job entails being in-charge or assisting with high-level accounting transactions and tasks such as various duties surrounding the month-end close, production of financial reports, day-to-day accounting tasks (i.e. invoicing clients and reviewing payables), supporting company and project budgeting, tracking financial requirements in agreements and various accounting duties such as being a financial liaison for project managers and providing financial support to staff. This position reports directly to the Director of Finance.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Month-end Close
    • A lead performer in the month-end close process, performs needed steps
    • Maintains bank and balance sheet reconciliations
    • Performs various other financial reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and invoicing
    • Performs account variance analysis with budget
  • Production of Financial Reports
    • Creates and develops financial reports as needed by the organization
    • Supports or produces month-end reports for organization and budget vs. actual reports for project directors and department heads
    • Supports project directors and department heads with financial information and support for questions and inquires
    • Prepares periodic financial reports for funding organizations
  • Day-to-day Accounting Tasks
    • Stays current with processing accounting transactions of the organization
    • Reviews and approves accounts payable vouchers
    • Codes and/or reviews cash receipts, reviews postings
    • Prepares invoices for government contracts and grants
    • Manages A/R aging and Unbilled A/R
    • Leads A/R collection team efforts
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Budgeting
    • Teams with creating annual budgets for various accounts
    • Assists staff with their departmental and project budgets
    • Consolidates budgets into summaries and reports
    • Teams with preparing budgets for project proposals
    • Teams with long-term budgeting and forecasting
    • Provides financial analysis for requested scenarios
  • Audit and 990
    • Is a lead for preparing for year-end audit and working with auditors to answer questions
    • Teams to prepare Tax form 990 and 990T
  • Contract Compliance
    • Maintains accounting profile for each contract and grant to support invoicing, reporting and compliance
    • Enters contract information into MS Dynamics SL


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required and a CPA or CPA candidate is preferred

Experience

  • At least 4 years of Accounting experience with past experience in above listed job requirements
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL and project accounting is preferred
  • Experience with non-profits is preferred
